Project Description
The owners of this lovely home had spent quite some time on whether they wanted to renovate their old house or build new for their family. Moving locations was not an option as the owners loved their space. It’s a lovely property which was close to the city and the sprawling 10-acre mature forest property was hard to let go.
The couple pondered on whether they were willing to spend a lot on renovating to maintain the old frame of the old house or just build something from scratch. They decided to do a complete overhaul, build a new structure and the results were just astonishing.
The 4000-sqft bungalow stands proud as the highlight of the property. The landscape features natural stone leading to the front porch which is done in stucco. As you enter this absolutely beautiful home, you will be greeted by a 2000-sqft main living area which features the kitchen and the great room. The couple wanted a spacious gathering area for friends and family and this design could have not been designed and constructed any better – it was just the perfect venue for what they wanted.
This amazing property features three bedrooms on the main floor and two in the basement with the master bath boasting a free-standing oval tub and a steam room shower. The house also features a deck which was designed to be curved to complement the overall modern design and to give extra room to get out in the sun.
But this house is not just all about looks. It is also rich in functionality. The house was wired with the ability to make it into a “smart home”. There are six sun tunnels to allow extra natural light to come in so that the owners are able to save on their energy consumption and make it a greener home.
To maintain the house in its comfortable temperature, the whole space is also sealed with two inches of spray foam insulation from the walls, to the basement and even to the attic. An in-floor hydronic heat is featured in the basement floor and the whole house is heated with geo-thermal energy that used “directional drilling” so that the trees surrounding the area will not be disturbed.
But it does not end there.
The owners wanted a stand-alone carriage house and to minimize waste, the original home foundation was re-used. Similar to the main house, in-floor heat is also provided by the original geo-thermal system and four sun tunnels are installed to allow extra natural light. The carriage house also features a loft for storage and a covered patio leading to the exterior with the same natural stone finish and stucco.
